As editor of New Car Test Drive, Mitch McCullough coordinates assignments with NCTD correspondents and edits and publishes all the reviews.

In 1987, McCullough quit his job as a newspaper reporter in Virginia to work for the Jim Russell racing school. He raced Formula Russells for two years at Riverside International Raceway before turning to the dark side, managing public relations for three different car companies before returning to journalism.

For more than 20 years McCullough has written articles for national automotive magazines and major metropolitan newspapers. He covered Winston Cup and professional sportscar racing for AutoWeek magazine and reviewed trucks for Field & Stream magazine. He served as president of the Washington Automotive Press Association and president of the Motor Press Guild in Los Angeles. He currently serves as a juror for the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year awards.

Suffering from a lifelong interest in driving, McCullough races historic Lotuses and rallies vintage cars. Along with co-driver Scott Webb, McCullough won the 1993 California Rally Series championship in his four-wheel-drive Mazda 323 GTX and was named CRS Rookie of the Year, and the two won the 1994 SCCA Southern Pacific Division Pro Rally championship. McCullough raced showroom stock cars in SCCA Club Racing, Motorola Cup and Neon Challenge. He has completed courses at most of the major professional racing schools.

McCullough is an avid fly fisherman. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, he was graduated from Washington State University with a degree in journalism. He has worked in Detroit, Washington, Los Angeles, and is now based in the New York metro area.
