Steve Williams’ addiction to automobiles began when, at 16, he “borrowed” his dad’s Bonneville (Dad was on vacation) to drive from his home (in Boston) to Manhattan and had a flat tire in the Midtown Tunnel. Driving was never quite the same after that.

Steve studied at Northeastern University and first dabbled in auto writing while working as a copy boy at The Boston Globe. Subsequently he joined Newsday on Long Island, and migrated to New York Newsday during its short life, writing about travel, music and consumer electronics. He has since covered many aspects of the auto industry: consumer issues for Newsday, automobile advertising and marketing for Advertising Age and Automotive News, and a variety of features, from his overseas delivery of a BMW to a look at motorized recliners, for The New York Times. He has consumed bad scrambled eggs at more auto show press breakfasts than he cares to recall, from Frankfurt to Chicago, and downed a terrific schnitzel at the then-newly opened Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen.

Currently Steve free-lances for a variety of outlets, and lives for the ten days each year in New York when he can drop the top on his Mercedes SLK.
