The 2015 Ford F-150 is the North American Truck of the Year.

Considered the most prestigious automotive product awards in the U.S., the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck/Utility of the Year are determined by 57 automotive journalists who work independently of one another, representing magazines, television, radio, newspapers and web sites from all over the U.S. and Canada.

The awards are designed to recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year. These vehicles are benchmarks in their segments based on factors including innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value.

The finalists for North American Truck/Utility of the Year were the 2015 Ford F-150, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, and the 2015 Lincoln MKC. F-150 got 297 points, Colorado 205, MKC 68.

New Car Test Drive editor McCullough voted for the F-150.

“Making the F-150 out of aluminum was a risky move for Ford,” McCullough said. “But lightweight construction has many advantages: After shedding nearly 700 pounds, the new F-150 offers improved fuel efficiency, stronger acceleration and shorter braking distances. It feels lighter and more agile than the other trucks in its class. Its payload and tow ratings are at or near the top of the class. Previously among the heaviest pickups in its class, the 2015 Ford F-150 is now among the lightest.”
